I am a big believer in visualizing what you want to achieve. Write your dreams down in vivid detail, and you will have a much greater chance of achieving them. One of my dreams is to one day have a 19-piece big band. In this article, I am going to give details about how I want that 19-piece jazz band to be configured. First, writing this article will help me to remember the details, and it will keep me focused on achieving this dream.

Firstly, I want to have several groups of instruments and singers, with each group having a soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone voice. The foundation of the band will be a 3-piece rhythm section: piano, bass, and drums.

Section 1: The Rhythm Section

As stated above, the rhythm section will consist of the following instruments:

  1. piano (the pianist will also act as the band's music director)
  2. bass
  3. drums

Section 2: The Saxophones

The saxophone section will be made up of four saxophones, with me playing the alto saxophone parts:

  1. soprano saxophone
  2. alto saxophone
  3. tenor saxophone
  4. baritone saxophone

Section 3: Brass Instruments

Section 3 will have the following instruments:

  1. trumpet
  2. French horn
  3. trombone
  4. tuba

Section 4: Strings

Section 4 will be the string section, and it will be made up of the following instruments:

  1. violin
  2. viola
  3. cello
  4. bass

Here is a visual representation of the band. My working name for the band is the Saxtalk Jazz Big Band.
